Katie Breen

Yoga Teacher Trainer; Pittsboro, NC:

Thankfully I was born as a curious spirit – curious enough to be following life’s breadcrumbs. I’m especially grateful for the ones that brought me to Raleigh from the Philadelphia area in 2014 as a filmmaker with preferences for good coffee. I was instantly captivated by the creativity, innovation and inspiration of downtown Raleigh, where I saw people building on their dreams, and connecting to other fellow dreamers. A place that was also equidistant from mountains and ocean, with ample woods scattered in between – I got one taste of Raleigh, and my heart smiled.

Shortly after I made the Triangle my home, I pursued my 200hr teacher training at blue lotus yoga. Teaching yoga was never on my radar. Really, I was looking for a way to amplify a practice I had been cultivating for several years, and as a way to reroute back to myself. Teaching, though, has happened along the way, and I know myself to be at my brightest when my studentship and teachership are in a dance together. This fusion led to me starting a yoga program at Raleigh City Farm in 2016 where we practice weekly on community urban farm space, embodying what it is to sustainably connect to ourselves, community, and the natural world.

I am now in pursuit of further study with Allison through Heart of Yoga’s AYTT. Traveling to Southern Indian temples with Allison in early 2018 gave me a launch pad for embarking on my deeper studies of yoga, growth in my personal practice, and greater understanding and experience of community found in the heart of devotion.

Expect to be greeted with bright smiles as we explore breath led movement. I can’t think of a better way than a simple, yet complete, yoga practice to recognize, celebrate, and trust the truly special gifts in life: community and connection. Our practice together will work to dissolve the barrier between external life and internal truth each time we step on the mat. It makes me equally giddy and grateful at how blessed we are to embark on the journey of self-discovery that yoga allows for. Together.

When I’m not teaching, you can find me tending to my garden, having a backyard fire, hiking in the woods, or practicing the harmonium I picked up in India! I color my life with good people, nourishing food, and heart-filled adventures that keep life interesting, and forever my greatest love story.
