Allison Dennis holds a BFA in Musical Theatre with a Minor in Music. In NYC she performed in several Off Broadway shows and bands, until a back injury brought her to yoga in 2001. Unable to perform asanas the first three years of the injury, her entry point to yoga was the philosophy of India. She devoured Patanjali Yoga Sutras for a decade while becoming a yoga asana teacher as therapy for her own physical pain.

She completed 500 hours of TT in the Sivananda lineage with Prem Sadasivananda in 2005, 650 hour Massage Therapy Program at Body Therapy Institute in 2006, 300 hour Jivamukti TT with David Life and Sharon Gannon in 2008, Patanjali TT with Swami Swaroopananda 2010 – 2014, Yoga of Heart TT with Mark Whitwell in 2011, and sometime around 2010 Allison met Nada Yoga Master, K. Sridhar.

In addition to the aforementioned teachers, Allison was fortunate to have attended classes and encountered extended satsangs with a variety of prominent teachers and scholars including Pattabhi Jois, Dharma Mittra, Edwin Bryant, Robert Svoboda, Radhanath Swami, Radhika Devi, Amma, and Ram Das.

Prem Sadasivananda and K. Sridhar encouraged Allison to visit India, and life finally allowed that to happen in 2016. Being in India is a raw energy that seems to transform, and Allison keeps going back for more.  She leads tours in South India based on all K. Sridhar and his wife Camilla have taught her about Indian culture and Temples, infusing her love for Vedic Astrology and Indian Mythology throughout.

In 2016, after a harmonium workshop with K. Sridhar, Allison was inspired to begin a disciplined music practice. That year she also started an organized study of Jyotish, with Komilla Sutton. Since then she’s been practicing and studying in new ways and discovering delightful connections between astrology and music.

From 2010-2018 Allison owned and operated Heart of Yoga School out of Carrboro where she led three distinct yoga teacher trainings, culminating in a full 800 hour YTT program. Now Allison is travelling about sharing kirtan and Vedic subjects with interested communities.
