All levels welcome, a gentle class

When approaching chakra (wheel of energy) yoga, it’s important to understand that what we are actually doing is nadi (pathway of energy) yoga; we are cleaning the pipes of their tension and trauma. These pipes or pathways carry subtle messages to the chakra system. The build up of unprocessed information can create a blockage. These blockages make it hard for the mind to process information and can even create mysterious and undiagnosable pain in the physical body.

The practice is simple, gentle, breath-centric, and will give better results if practiced regularly for a long period of time. The main direction will be to come into the first edge of the pose (all levels are welcome), to stay with your breath as a deep meditation, to guide your attention to the place in the body we are focusing on, and to not push at all. When we push we only create more tension; and these classes aim to discover, unravel, and ultimately release deep seated physical and emotional tension. The last thing we want to do is come to a yoga class and create more tension.

Allison has studied the science and technology of Hatha Yoga as a practitioner and scholar for over 12 years now. Most of her knowledge comes from practice and direct experience, but she is deeply supported by the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, an ancient text that explains the subtle pathways of energy flow in the body/mind. Her ability to hold space for personal transformation without attachment to the outcome a student may or may not have makes the process uniquely individual even though there may be 40 students in the room.

This class is suitable for a beginner and a seasoned practitioner. The movements are simple and held for a longer period of time than a flowing yoga class. Savasana (final relaxation) will be guided and extended. No pre-registration required, but these chakra classes usually fill up.
